Personal VisionStatement
Inspired by Isaiah 53
Being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ should be my number one objective in life. In asking myself just what this means I was guided to the 53rd chapter of Isaiah as a graphic illustration of just what this transformed person should look like. From this inspiration my personal vision statement was born.
1. The number one character quality that defines my life is Truthfulness. As an idealist I must maintane unimpeachable integrity and a willingness to allow truth to judge my each and every action.
2. I will alwaysstrive to maintain a balance between tenderness and strength. Truth, which is most important to my personality, must be balanced by grace and love. This will only be possible as I totally surrender my life to Christ and allow His love to flow through me.
3. The world emphasizes physical strength and beauty as a defining point of a person; I will always strive to never allow physical attractiveness to detract from the inward person of beauty contained in a heart. I will maintain a plain lifestyle to assist me in accomplishing this purpose.
4. As a lover of truth, I am willing to be “despised” and “rejected” by others for the sake of truth’s defense.
5. I am willing to acknowledge my own sorrow and grief over my sinful nature. As the Holy Spirit convicts me of areas of needed improvement I will repent and show sorrow and grief as I recognize His sorrow and grief in my actions. I will strive to love Jesus to such a degree I am shocked by sinful behavior and compromise.
6. If I offend someone or compromise someone’s integrity I am willing to be confronted and convicted of this so that I never have to hide my face in shame over any circumstance. I will always look aperson in the eye and be transparent with my motives.
7. It will always be my goal to esteem others better than myself even when they are socially “despised.”
8. I must be willing to bear others grief and sorrow as Jesus has born mine; to care for the hurting heart even if it’s not the popular thing to do.
9. Sin has caused awound in the human heart. Jesus has accepted the punishment for the cause of that wound and my acceptance of His payment is the only thing that will heal that wound and bring peace to my life or anyone else’s. This message is my daily theme.
10. As I have gone astray, so will others. As Jesus has willingly guided me back to truth, so must I be willing to accept and forgive others who hurt me. As a mentor my purpose is to always ask “How can I make a positive difference in this person’slife?” never, “What is in it for me?”
11. When facing conflict and opposition, I must be willing to remain silent before men and recognize the Source of my strength is Jesus Christ and that I must cry out to Him for the fulfillment of all my needs.
12. Jesus was judged and went to prison for my transgressions so that I might experience eternal freedom. I must boldly preach this message of freedom from the power of sin and demonstrate it by my life of consistent holiness.
